About the Author

"Choose Joy"

Mike Luchtenburg is a speaker and storyteller who helps people recognize God’s presence in everyday life. Drawing from his passion for motivation, leadership, and connection, he shares messages that inspire hope, ignite faith, and speak to the ongoing journey of walking with God.  Over the years, he has written on subjects ranging from business leadership and ethics to practical empowerment for the poor or disenfranchised of societies.  Whether lecturing on business finance at California State University or bringing humor and challenge from the pulpits of churches across the USA and Canada, he has sought to empower people to “Choose Joy”.

Having lived in four countries, serving in international economic development, pastoral ministry, and executive leadership in a Wall Street firm, his diverse experiences have shaped his unique perspective—one that brings depth, compassion, and commonsense clarity.

Mike is a husband, father, grandfather, and a “favorite Uncle”.  When he gets a chance to tee it up, a good golf course is his sanctuary.

Professional Background

Mike's career started in economic and community development, both domestically and internationally. From leading urban economic initiatives in San Jose, Costa Rica, to serving in Mexico City and Oaxaca, initiating programs of job creation, projects for potable water, literacy, health, or working to save a starving village, Mike has blended his theological/ethical insights and hard life lessons with practical leadership strategies.

He has pastored three churches, ranging from small rural congregations to large churches in the Bay Area and Southern California.  A particular honor was serving as president of a nonprofit organization that provided tutoring and nutrition to at-risk children in the barrios of Southern California.

Mike’s next chapter led him to Wall Street, where he advanced from entry-level to Managing Principal within a year.  It is in the business world that Mike has spent the last 25 years, striving to integrate the ethic and faith foundation with the dynamic opportunities presented within corporations.
